MANDATORY KITLIST
There is a minimum amount of equipment that teams and hikers must check-in with and carry during the whole hike. Please ensure you have all your kit in advance. We cannot loan or supply equipment. If you have any questions about types of equipment, please ask the organisers BEFORE the event.
INDIVIDUAL'S EQUIPMENT
Each competitor must wear or carry as appropriate on the Hike:
- Substantial footwear/boots (not trainers) suitable for walking or scrambling that support the ankle; Experienced hill-walkers (members of the LDWA) may wear fell-running footwear.
- Their hiker tally card issued to them at check-in
- Long trousers (not jeans). Lighter type trousers (with additional thermal wear) or shorts can be worn if the weather conditions permit.
- Waterproof (not shower-proof) over-garment with hood
- Waterproof over trousers
- Sweater with long sleeves or other warm body garment with high thermal properties.
- Spare sweater/alternative.
- Scarf & Gloves
- Headgear
- Socks - wool or cotton
- Reflectors or safety tapes.
All the above clothing must be of the correct size, in good repair, of suitable material and which in the view of the organisers are capable of providing adequate thermal insulation and protection from conditions to be expected on down land in winter.
Each competitor must carry at all times on the hike:
- Whistle
- Personal first aid kit
- Substantial torch capable of prolonged use with spare batteries and bulb.
- Adequate emergency rations (sweets, chocolate nuts etc) and a mug for drinking
- Survival bag or emergency foil thermal blanket
- Coins for telephone box
- Pencil and notebook
- A copy of the written instructions to competitors. (the hikers' booklet)
