Check-in
All teams are required to check-in as a complete team of three hikers at their allocated check-in time and location.
During check-in, each team will be required to show the kit-checker the kit that they are carrying as a team and each individual hiker will also be required to show that they have the required personal equipment. Non-Scout entrants will be required to complete a liability waiver if they have not already done so. The name of the team and individual hikers will be confirmed and each hiker will be presented with their own tally-card which needs to be tied to their rucksack. The kit-checker will have a standard checklist to work through, and the absence of any items may result in either a time penalty or in disqualification of the entire team. Remember, Teams must start as a group of three hikers and no time allowances will be made for late teams.
The check-in location for the Classic and Explorer Events is at 79th Reading Scout HQ, Armour Hill, Tilehurst.
The check-in location for the Scout Event is at Pangbourne Village Hall. Note: this is NOT the same place as The Adventure Dolphin Centre at Pangbourne which has been used in previous hike years.
Classic hikers are required to check-in 40 minutes before their allocated start time; this allows 30 minutes for the check-in and 10 minutes transportation to Purley.
Explorer hikers are required to check-in 90 minutes before their allocated start time; this allows 30 minutes for the check-in and 60 minutes transportation to Blewbury.
Scout hikers are required to check-in 30 minutes before their allocated start time; this allows 30 minutes for the check-in. Scouts commence walking from the check-in location.
