Scouts and Explorer Scouts entering the Three Towers Hike can earn credit towards the Hikes Away Award. This is a staged-badge with recognition for 1, 5, 10, 20, 35 and 50 hiking events (which aren't limited to walking events). By participation in the event and two training practice days, a credit of 3 hikes can be added to the award.

We've captured links to the nearest Google Street Views for each of the checkpoints. Can you work out which is which ? VIEW
We have prepared some interactive maps with all the checkpoints for the entire event. It can be quite fun to zoom in and around each checkpoint looking for the track of the hike. If you look hard enough you will even find three hikers walking the route. Google Maps can be used to get an aerial photographic view of the course, while Ordance Survey's OpenSpace can be used to get high quality maps using famiiar mapping symbols. Enjoy.

Global Position by Satellite systems are highly popular devices which can show tracks, speed and remaining walk time. Although the hike doesn't prohibit these devices by competitors, it would like to remind them that there is no sound replacement for proper and decent up-to-date maps. GPS data should be used with care.
If you're able to view GPX files, we've prepared one for your GPS here
Geocaching is a fun way of exploring the countryside armed with a GPS unit. It's a high-tech version of a treasure hunt and millions take part globally. There are quite a few 'caches' hidden around the hike route; these have been hidden by many different people. You can find out more about these caches by clicking here.
To help you with your map reading skills, we've prepared a document for you to download and read.

We're on the lookout for hike records and results from yesteryear, prior to 2003 to be precise. Unfortunately, much of the hike's historical items were destroyed years ago at a fire. Did you take part in the hike in the 1970's, 1980's or 1990's? Do you still have your certificate or any other results listings? If so, please get in touch. See what we've discovered so far... More
The Three Towers event has been a calendar event for over three decades. The hike has evolved from a monopathed adult event over northern Reading to a multi-class major-league challenge over the footpaths and hills to the west of Reading and beyond!.
