18km open event aged 16+

classic

Are you aged at least 16 but never considered competitive walking? Would you like to find out what others are talking about and take part in a less-strenuous version of the event?

The Jubilee event, in honour of Her Majesty's The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, is open to anyone aged 16 or over. There's no upper age limit. We don't care what sex, colour or creed you are. You just need to be fit enough to walk for about 15km. If you're a serious walker, you should consider entering the Explorer or Classic hike.

You don't even have to be a member of the Scout Association - we just ask you to confirm you have your own personal accident insurance. If you are a member of a recognised group then you will have insurance.

Entry Fees: £51 per team. Fees include transport to the start and pickup from the finish plus a snack or two, participant medal and certificate.

ROUTE

The route is not more than 18km in length - or about 11 miles depending on how you walk. The route starts at Blewbury northwest of Streatley. You will actually be kit checked at 79th Reading Scout HQ in Tilehurst and bussed out ready for the start.

On departing Blewbury hikers will follow the Ridgeway westward, towards East Hendred, before heading south to Catmore and then eastward, eventually arriving in East Ilsley, from where St John Ambulance will be in assistance should you need it. You'll be transported back to 79th Reading by minibus, or if you're feeling fit, you can walk it instead!

Hot snacks await hikers and St John will attend any blisters. Hikers can then relax and spend the night in luxury before the presentations on Sunday morning.
